You’ve just moved to Austin, Texas. Or, maybe you’ve been here awhile but for a variety of reasons, you haven’t seen anything good. Or, maybe you just haven’t found exactly what you’re looking for. Once upon a time, I was you.
If you want to explore Austin, I have great news: you made it to a uniquely versatile city. Part of the attraction of living here is that you can meet people who are into the same weird shit you are. You can be any age, live any lifestyle, and you’ll find a home.
So. Who the heck am I and why are you bothering to read this?
There must be thousands of tour guides in Austin. You know that tour guide gal who smiles with a gaping open mouth of giant white teeth, who looks like she just stepped out of a magazine? You know. The one who’s holding a Frosé in one hand and her dog leash attached to the cutest poodle you’ve ever seen in your life in the other? Yeah. I’m not her.
My job is to be realer than her. I want to show you the underbelly of this town. Let’s look at the honkytonks and dive bars that I’ve discovered for myself over the years together with fresh eyes. Let’s toss around the good, bad and ugly of each experience. Our goal is to help each other explore and make a life that connects here.
I’m Heather Bee. I have 3 jobs. During banker’s hours, I’m an account executive for a downtown Austin company. Part-time, I’m a bartender at Carousel Lounge in north Austin. By appointment, I’m a photographer who loves shooting portraits of my musician pals.
Details that’ll give you an idea of what I want to cover here: I’m a whiskey and beer drinker, who dabbles in wine and cocktails. I’m a country, rockabilly and blues fan who dabbles in punk, metal, rap, funk and soul. I’m a hardcore foodie, NFL + NHL fan and lover of a good standup comedy show. I love being outside, especially when it’s 100 degrees out there. Museums of every kind are important to me.
I’ve lived in Austin since 2014. I won’t hate on you for coming here like I did (I’ll hate on you for other reasons!). I’m glad you’re here. Welcome. Ask me questions and I’ll help if I can.
